Maybe…. just maybe we have some good news in this troubled world.
Until things start to come back to some sense of normality none of us will be able to get on with our lives in any proper sense.
It looks as though the Ukraine disaster is close to a conclusion, but the mess in West Asia is clearly getting worse. And Brussels seems to be continuing on a suicide course, while the UK is sinking into the mud.
At the moment the only sensible thing to do is to keep one’s head down.
Israel’s act of genocide in Gaza has not only been deeply shocking, but the way it has been allowed to proceed is clear evidence that the protocols set up to deal with such situations are not one scrap of use.
All these international institutions have not stopped the outrage. The International Court of Justice has achieved sweet FA so far. The UN has proved to be a complete waste of space. However, a bunch of people in the US decided to bring an action in the US courts accusing part-time-president Biden of war crimes.
That concentrated a few minds. American vetos at the UN stopped immediately.
So what comes next?
The American administration can no longer afford to support Israel. Support now implies life imprisonment at the very least for those who continue to back Israel as the evidence for genocide is overwhelming.
On the other side of the ocean the people in Israel now see where this is going and have taken to the streets, so the question now is, what is the Israeli government’s next move?
Obviously I dont know, and I am writing this on tuesday march 26.
I would think there are two basic outcomes, because this is either the beginning of the end, or maybe just the end of the beginning.
Let’s first assume the latter.
Net-and-whatsit is a supreme egoist and unprincipled nutcase. This means he will probably double down and try to front-out all opposition, and send more bombers into Gaza, and all hell will break loose. This is likely to cause reprisals in spades, and Israel will be in danger of being annihilated. I suspect the ensuing carnage will be devastating. But it will end the war, and may possibly end Israel, as I suspect that the court case against Biden will stop the flow of munitions to Israel.
On the other hand, let’s assume Net-thingy is more concerned with his personal survival. I dont think he is terribly smart, but maybe, just maybe he is now starting to get worried. So far he has shown no concern for risk. Maybe today he is at last facing the problem of risk and has decided the odds have moved seriously against him. I dont happen to think he is that sort of person, but I’ve never met him. Maybe somewhere deep inside his psyche is a mouse, and that mouse is fervently sniffing the air outside his bunker, and the mouse has got the shakes. So what’s his next move?
IMHO he only has one viable option. He, and his tight coterie of monsters needs to say they are deeply disappointed with the US abstention at the UN, and that they wish to make representations to the US about the next moves.
They charter a military jet and fly to Washington for discussions.
They are met by senior members of the Zionist movement, and they quietly disappear into a secret retirement.
What happens next depends on whether there is any Israel left, but what probably will happen is a two state solution on the original 1948 lines.
And this conflict will go on for another seventy odd years until all hell breaks loose yet again.
Sorry guys, but there is no nice solution to this matter. In strict legal terms there is no Israeli state at all. You’d need to be an expert in International law to understand that. It is somewhat convoluted, but there is no doubt that on paper Israel should not exist.
Those of you who have read T.E.Lawrence’s writings on the subject immediately after the end of the second world war will know some of the chicanery that went towards establishing an illegal state, all of which he vehemently opposed.
Those of you who have read the legal summery ably set out before the ICJ will know exactly what went wrong in the setting up of the state of Israel, and that it contravened not one but several internationally legally binding requirements.
I sincerely hope the war in Gaza is stopped, but I very much doubt whether that will be the end of the matter. There is just too much hatred on each side for the two sides to live peaceably next door to each other. A two-state solution simply wont work. However, a cease-fire (and by that I mean a proper one) and a fudge is better than the continuing genocide.
