Is The West Fundamentally Immoral?

I think I have to stop looking at news from the UK, or indeed anywhere in Europe. And the news from the USA is pretty bad, and West Asia seems to be a total disaster.

Whatever I hear from the UK is beyond belief. People accused of putting up christmas trees because it might offend someone. Gang rapes seem to be the latest form of entertainment, and apparently that’s ok. I feel as if I’m reading about some dystopian planet from a different galaxy.

On a different note, apparently the UK housing rental market is being taken over by international companies, or should I say international gangs?

The weather, always a dodgy subject in the UK, seems to be heading back to the cold periods experienced a few decades ago. How that chimes with the current insanity about global warming is beyond me, but that seems to be the new normal.

I live in a part of the world which is apparently highly regarded, but it is rather expensive. I’ve decided to move back to Spain, but when I check out prices there it isn’t that I find them considerably cheaper than here in the Algarve, but I find I can rent something reasonably nice for €900 a month, but I could apparently get something similar for €300 in Thailand. And meals that cost €15 here would cost half that or less in South East Asia.

And then there are the general statistics. Most European countries have real inflation rates somewhere between 5% and 10%, with economies hovering around 0% annual increase.

It doesn’t matter where I look, I have to ask myself some fundamental questions. The first is, what are my moral beliefs, and how do they chime with those of the part of the world where I live? The plain fact is, they dont, so what am I doing here?

Secondly, I have to ask why life is so expensive where I live, and what am I getting for paying approximately three times what I’d pay somewhere else? What is this value added cost?

The fact is that the march of technology makes the cost of living go down. There should be no inflation at all. In fact, we dont suffer from inflation, we suffer from debasement of the currency, and that is caused by the government.

Every step in technology makes it easier and cheaper to make things and to do things. That feeds through to the total cost of goods and services. That means the natural monetary condition should be one of deflation.

I’m sorry to say that it is blatantly obvious that I am paying an extortionate price for a less than adequate set of principles and facilities.

Maybe this time next year I will be bleating on about the lousy situation in some other part of the world, but I can think of no good reason why I shouldn’t go and see if the grass is greener somewhere else.

The following may sound silly, but I am taking it as a symbol of what The West has become; a fraud where everything is also upside-down.

I am looking at a mustard pot. I should have paid more attention when buying the wretched thing, but I hate shopping, and naively believe what is on the label, and therefore go round and get what I need as quickly as possible to get out and get back home.

Let’s analyse this otherwise inoffensive pot.

It obviously sells otherwise the Heinz corporation wouldn’t make the stuff. But let’s have a closer look at the contents.

It’s advertised as Yellow Mustard. It also states that it contains Honey, which I find an odd combination, but thought I would try it. Significantly, the label is on upside-down.

But what is this stuff? I maintain it is a typical western product because it isn’t what it claims to be. It should be sold as Flavoured Water. Here is my reasoning.

The first product on the list of contents is Water. Mustard is listed as being 15%, and honey at 6%. That means roughly 79% of the contents is water. I did not want or intend to buy water.

Not content with that massive fraud, the honey is listed as New York deli style.

I wasn’t aware that many bees live in New York. But since it is a local speciality, I presume it includes New York water. That means it contains water that has been polluted with chemicals. They aren’t listed in the ingredients.

It’s clearly appropriate that the label is on upside down. The contents of the label dont seem to refer to the contents of the pay, just as I get the impression that a description of western political culture would appear to be very wide of the mark.

Democracies? The EU is an outrageous example of a dictatorship. France, Germany, Italy, and many of the other European states are governed by governments that are despised, and were elected because their manifestos were full of lies.

In America, the people’s representatives are paid by lobbyists, and so they represent the lobbyists, not their constituents.

It’s all turned out to be a bit of a mess, like that pot of mustard. What’s inside the jar isn’t the same as the outside advertisement.

In other words, the society I live in is based on lies. As a kid I was taught that lying was not a good thing. Unfortunately, lying has already become the norm, and it is set for a massive boost with the encroachment of AI.

Are we in the West becoming fundamentally immoral?
